Where to stay for the Qatar Grand Prix
What race week did to Doha hotel rates last year, the film festival that overlaps it again, and how each area actually connects to the shuttle at Lusail QNB. No invented hotel names.

Our where to stay page compares five areas of Doha on distance and character, and it holds for any weekend at the circuit. This guide is about the one weekend when that comparison shifts: the grand prix, 27 to 29 November 2026, when rooms cost the most and the trip home after a 19:00 race matters more than the view from your window.
As everywhere on this site, there are no hotel names here. Where something is our judgement rather than a published figure, we say so.
What race week did to Doha rooms last year
For the first time there is a number to work from. The hotel benchmarking firm STR, part of CoStar, published preliminary figures for November 2025:
| November 2025 | Figure | Change on November 2024 |
|---|---|---|
| Occupancy | 83.9% | up 0.5% |
| Average daily rate | QAR 578.58 | up 19.6% |
| Revenue per available room | QAR 485.26 | up 20.3% |
The useful detail sits underneath the monthly figures. The average room rate for the whole month peaked on Friday 28 November, which STR identified as the first night of the grand prix, at QAR 875.56. By our arithmetic that is about half as much again as the November average. Occupancy, though, peaked earlier in the week, at 94.2% on Monday 24 November, during the Doha Film Festival.
Two readings follow, both ours. The race pushed prices far harder than occupancy, so rooms were there, at a price. And the city’s fullest night of the month was not a race night.
The same overlap happens again in 2026
The Doha Film Festival runs from 19 to 27 November 2026, so its closing day is the Friday of race weekend. If you are planning to arrive early in the week and make a holiday of it, those midweek nights are the ones the festival filled last year, and you will be competing for them with festival visitors as well as race fans.
Nobody publishes forward rates for the 2026 weekend, and we will not estimate them. What we can suggest is a method: price your Wednesday and Thursday nights separately from Friday to Sunday before you book a single block. If the early nights cost almost as much as the race nights, arriving on Thursday instead of Tuesday is the easiest saving in the whole trip.
Package sellers are in the market too. In August, Qatar Airways Holidays announced stopover packages that combine hotel nights with a three day T16 grandstand ticket, for travel across the race dates, in four hotel tiers. The announcement did not publish prices. If you are flying with that airline anyway, price it against buying room and ticket separately.
The railway decides more than the map
Every area on our stay page is really a question about one line. The Doha Metro Red Line runs from Hamad International Airport through Msheireb, West Bay and Katara to Legtaifiya, then Qatar University, and ends at Lusail QNB, where the event shuttle to the circuit starts. In race week, the number of changes between your bed and that last station matters more than how many minutes the drive takes on a quiet day.
West Bay. West Bay, DECC and Al Qassar stations are all on the Red Line, so this is one train to Lusail QNB with no change. It is the base where staying on for the Sunday concert costs least, because last year the metro ran until well after midnight on all three nights. Our race day guide has those hours.
Msheireb and old Doha. Msheireb is the interchange for the Red, Gold and Green lines, so it is also a single train, just with more stops. Our judgement: from here the metro is the only sensible way back, and a taxi after the race is the costliest mistake available, the longest road trip of the city options at the busiest moment of the weekend.
The Pearl. There is no metro station on the island. The link is Legtaifiya, where the free M110 Metrolink feeder bus runs to stops on The Pearl including Porto Arabia, roughly every 12 minutes at peak and every 15 otherwise, on hours that follow the normal metro timetable. We have found nothing saying the feeder was extended for race weekend last year, so treat a late return as a short taxi from Legtaifiya unless that changes.
Lusail Marina. Closest on the map, and less simple by rail than it looks. The Marina tram stops are on the Orange and Pink lines, which run to Legtaifiya. Lusail QNB is on the Turquoise line, opened in January 2025, which does not serve the Marina. So the rail route from a Marina base to the shuttle is a tram south to Legtaifiya and then two stops north on the metro. Our reading: a short taxi will often beat that going in, but coming home it puts you back in the road traffic. Normal tram hours are also shorter than the metro’s: in 2025 the published timetable ran to 23:59 from Saturday to Wednesday and from 14:00 to 01:00 on Fridays. Qatar Rail extended both metro and tram hours for last year’s race weekend; nothing has been announced for 2026 yet.
Near the airport. The airport sits at the end of one southern branch of the same Red Line, so a hotel within walking distance of one of the stations around it is a single train to Lusail QNB, the longest ride of the five. Our view is that this changes the sums on our stay page. Near a station, the airport option is a reasonable race week base. Needing a taxi to reach a station, it is not.
How we would choose
This is judgement, not data.
- Decide first whether you are staying for the Sunday concert. If you are, pick a base on the Red Line itself: West Bay, Msheireb, or a hotel near an airport area station.
- If you are leaving at the flag, the area matters less than the queue, and Lusail Marina’s short road distance helps most.
- Book the nights before the ticket, and price midweek nights on their own because of the festival.
- For a group of four, the apartment case for The Pearl still stands. Budget for a late taxi between Legtaifiya and the island.
